• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated rain and thunderstorms for Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), including Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Chandigarh, and parts of Haryana and Punjab, on Thursday. The weather activity is expected to be limited to short spells of rain accompanied by lightning, with no heavy rain warnings issued for the region. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are under heavy rain alerts as the southwest monsoon retreats from central India. Delhi's air quality remains in the moderate category, with the city recording its most polluted first week of October since
• The seven-day average Air Quality Index (AQI) stands at 171, with several monitoring stations reporting elevated levels.

Impact & Risks

The isolated rain and thunderstorms in Delhi-NCR are not expected to cause significant disruptions, as no heavy rain warnings have been issued. However, the moderate air quality poses health risks, particularly for sensitive groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions. The AQI levels in some areas, such as Dwarka Sector 8 (269) and Mundka (255), have reached the 'poor' category, which may exacerbate respiratory issues. Tamil Nadu and Kerala, under heavy rain alerts, could face localised flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
